Actiegroep ‘de beuk erin’ is in 1998 opgericht door bewoners van Tongelre om de beukenlaan, de oprijlaan naar het voormalige kasteel, te redden. In 2005 wordt de actiegroep omgevormd tot stichting Groendomein Wasven. Aanleiding is de aankoop en renovatie van de Wasvenboerderij om daarmee het Wasven als geheel te behouden en duurzaam te ontwikkelen. Het Groendomein Wasven draait geheel zelfstandig; de meeropbrengst wordt geïnvesteerd in maatschappelijke activiteiten zoals natuurbeheer, exposities, educatie voor kinderen, workshops voor groepen en diverse evenementen.
